Intervention Plan
A Structured, Three-Phase Approach
Evidence-based mental skills intervention — designed to progress from assessment through to real competition application.
The programme is tailored to each individual client.
Phase 1
Assessment
Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, we begin by building a deep understanding of who you are, what you need, and where you want to go. Through a combination of psychometric assessment, in-depth interviews, and where appropriate, direct observation, we develop a personalised picture of your current psychological state.
- Intake inerview
- Psychological profiling (CSAI-2, SCAT, etc.)
- Introduction of sport & exercise psychology, and mental skills
- Collaborative goal-setting
Phase 2
Mental Skills Intervention
Based on the insights gathered during assessment, we design a psychological skills programme tailored specifically to you. The intervention includes two stages: an education phase, in which you develop an understanding of why mental skills matter and how they influence performance; and an acquisition phase, in which you begin to learn, practise, and internalise those skills in a structured way.
- Goal-setting strategies
- Imagery & visualization
- Self-talk techniques
- Arousal regulation
- Attentional focus training
Phase 3
Evaluation
Throughout our work together, we regularly review the effectiveness of the intervention, monitor your psychological wellbeing, and assess how far you have come relative to your initial goals. This ongoing evaluation ensures that the programme remains responsive to your changing needs, and that every session continues to move you forward.
- Semi-structured interview
- Psychological profiling (CSAI-2, SPCEF, etc.)
Commmon Questions
Q1. Do I need to be an elite athlete to work with you?
Not at all. I work with athletes at all levels — from recreational to professional. What matters is that you care about your performance and your wellbeing, not what level you compete at.
Q2. Is Sport Psychology only for people who are struggling?
No. Many of the world’s top athletes work with Sport Psychologists not because something is wrong, but because they want to maximise their potential. Think of it as training for your mind — just as you train your body.
Q3. I am based in Japan — can I still work with you?
Yes. All services are available online, and sessions can be conducted entirely in Japanese. I will work around your time zone to find a schedule that suits you.
Q4. Is everything confidential?
Absolutely. Everything discussed in sessions is strictly confidential. Nothing is shared with coaches, parents, or third parties without your explicit consent. You can speak freely.
Q5. How long does it take to see results?
This varies depending on the individual and the challenge. Many clients notice a shift in mindset within the first few sessions. Deeper, lasting change typically develops over 3–6 months of consistent work together.
Q6. What is the difference between a Sport Psychologist and a Sport Psychology Consultant?
A Sport Psychologist is a clinically registered practitioner. A Sport Psychology Consultant (like myself) has a postgraduate qualification in Sport Psychology and works specifically on performance and wellbeing — without clinical diagnosis or treatment.
